Pro-D Day: Integrating Agriculture into School Curriculum
On February 19th, we had our first Professional Development Day of the year at the UBC Farm. The day was hosted collaboratively with Think and Eat Green @ School, Farm to School BC, and Vancouver School Food Network. Together, we aimed to advance food knowledge among Vancouver teachers and the community through six informative and hands-on mini-workshops. Workshop themes featured hands-on gardening basics, cooking and food literacy, and integrating gardening and food into the curriculum. Read More

Landed Learning Students Inspire Community to Care for Pollinators Through START Project
Over 300 students, 20 Art Mentors and 11 teachers have come together to create an exciting collection of mixed media to share the importance and curious nature of pollinators! Their aim is to educate the public about local environmental issues and promote positive change in communities. Participants are from Waverley Elementary, Highlands Elementary, Edith Cavell Elementary, Holy Trinity Elementary and Sutherland Secondary. Read More
11th Annual Intergenerational Landed Learning Family Day
The 11th Annual Landed Learning Family Day was an enormous success. We had approximately 145 guests, Landed Learning students from four participating schools and their families. The mood was festive and social and fun was had by all. Current LL students were found in the garden and greenhouse showing off so much knowledge with their parents; former LL students returned with younger siblings to relive their great memories of the Farm and of their Farm Friends. Parents shared that they were learning so much from their children and felt they won the lottery by having their children in the Landed Learning Project! Read More
Teacher Memories: Mother Earth, The Hand That Feeds Us
What comes to mind when you think about “nutritional education?” Think about it for a moment. Perhaps your mind leaped to the Canada Food Guide and flashed with images of fruits and vegetables – lists and diagrams of how much of each colour you should eat a day. Maybe it wandered into thoughts about dieting and long nights of food prep and portioning. Though you wouldn’t be wrong, nutritional education can be much simpler, much more relevant, and could really be the missing piece in understanding and appreciating the food that we eat. It could serve to bridge the gap between people and mother earth. Read More
